July 2015

The first time my father died, I was four.
A group of them emerged from their getaway train
into a grand room. In my head the walls are papered ornately
and the lights are chandeliers, and somebody shoots him.
Money flies around the room and he falls to his knees.
We see his face register the situation
before he falls flat on it.

Morgan Bach weaves a line between waking life and the unstable dreamworld beneath, disorienting and reorienting us from moment to moment. In poems of childhood, family, travel and relationships, she responds to the ache and sometimes horror of life in a voice that is restless and witty, bold and sharp-edged.

‘It’s ordinary and extraordinary. It’s the kind of arrival that delights me.’
—Bernadette Hall

Morgan Bach lives in Wellington. In 2013 she won the Biggs Family Prize in Poetry. Some of Us Eat the Seeds is her first book.
