William Brandt is a novelist, short story writer and scriptwriter. He was born in London in 1961 to New Zealand parents. He grew up in New Zealand and has lived in Australia, Russia and the UK. He studied acting at the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney, and has appeared in many films and productions.
He is the author of the prize-winning collection of short stories Alpha Male and the novel The Book of the Film of the Story of My Life, published to popular and critical acclaim in 2002. It was nominated for the Deutz Medal for Fiction in the 2003 Montana New Zealand Book Awards. In July 2003 the British edition of The Book of the Film of the Story of My Life was published by Jonathan Cape and the US edition was published by Warner Books in early 2005.
